DayKeeper
I exhale
As the night begins to entangle me
Envelop “we” in its deafening embrace
Trying to erase the day
Trying to deface the way
Our last encounter changed me
And strangely
I am no longer afraid
I’ve been remade; reborn in daylight
And try as it might the darkness
Cannot asphyxiate my daydreams with nightmares
Cannot poison my new awareness with starless skies
Or tantalize my senses into numbness with some sunless sacrilege
For it’s been my privilege to know and be known by the light of day
And, in its wake, gained an appreciation for the dawn
So, night
Gone is any need for your sanction
That’s ancient news
For I’ve been loosed in a place your obsidian fingers cannot grasp
And your collapse is imminent
See…the day….the day…he is coming for me…in the morning
and I will be ready for him when he comes
*“…he tells me all his secrets. He thinks nobody knows. We laid together in daylight. I love him so
And when the sun rises, he watches over me….
And when the sun rises, he watches over me…”
